UNLICENSED INDIVIDUALS
F.D.P.R. Officers Are Now Monitoring This Area
According to Florida Law, consumers who hire unlicensed individuals would face a fine up to $5,000. Chapter 455.228 of the Florida Statues allows the Florida Department of Professional Regulation (DPR) to request the Circuit Court to impose a civil penalty of $500 to $5,000 on individuals who aid and abet unlicensed individuals. You may also be liable for court costs. Aiding and abetting is defined by the Statue as anyone who employs an unlicensed individual or company contracting as a contractor.
Consumers who hire such an individual face not only victimization of shoddy workmanship, no follow-up service, and inferior products; they face potential difficulties with the law. Further unlicensed contracting is a felony in Florida FS 489.127 (1) (F).
Make sure you see a copy of their Certificate of Competency and Workers Compensation Insurance. If info can't be furnished, they are not licensed. To check if a contractor is in fact licensed, call:
